SLOPE TIPS!...
-
y = mx + b is the slope-intercept form of a line.
-
The "m" is the slope and the "b" is the y-intercept
-
Example: Write the equation of the line with a slope of -3 and a y-intercept of -7.
-
Answer: y = -3x - 7
-
To find the slope of a line, pick two points on the line and count rise over run.
-
To find the slope between two points, graph those points and count rise over run.
-
The slope of a horizontal line is ZERO. The slope of a vertical line is NO SLOPE!
-
Lines with positive slope go higher as you go to the right.
-
Lines with negative slope go lower as you go right.
-
Vertical lines have no slope.
-
Horizontal lines have a slope = 0
